Anita Dunlap of Easley, SC contacted Chip Hunnicutt in 2002 claiming to be in possession of Thomas Reid’s bible: 2/28/02 Dear Chip Hunnicutt: Ran across part of your stuff on RootsWeb.com. I have a Bible which has written in it, Thomas Reid's Bible. It also has the rest of the information you have on his children, George, b. 1803, etc. It also has the death of Thomas Reid as May 18, 1834. I am not exactly sure how Thomas Reid was related to our Dunlap family, but I think Frederick Adair Dunlap married a descendant of Thomas Reid. Maybe you have the connection????? Would love to hear from you. Anita Dunlap 3/1/02 Dear Chip, A little more information on the Bible: It is in very poor condition and the writing is the front cover is very poor but I will try to copy it at work tomorrow. If it comes out clearly, I will send you copies if you would like that. I'll let you know how the copying comes out. More information on the Dunlap connection to Thomas Reid: My father-in-law, Frederick Adair Dunlap, Jr.,(of Rock Hill, SC) had the Bible. His father, Frederick Adair Dunlap was married to Mary Crawford Reid (born 12-14-1884, married 12-9-1908, died 1-1-1953). Mary Crawford Reid was the child of James Ferdinand Reid and Helen Agnes Mills. My father-in-law died in 1982. During the last year, his widow had to be admitted to an assisted living facility as an Alzheimer's patient (therefore, I can not get much information from her). Anyhow, when moving her, I found the Bible and saved it from the trash pile. I am the widow of Frederick Adair Dunlap, III. who was an only child. So that avenue of information is also lost. The Bible was published in MDCCXVI in Edinburgh. Printed by Mark and Charles Kerr, His Majefty's Printers. I don't know what I am going to do with the Bible. If my daughter's don't want it, I may give it to you. I feel it is the sort of thing you give to a relative or descendant, not sell. I look forward to hearing more from you when you have the time. I don't think I have any pictures but I am still going through some of the things from the Dunlap home. Who knows, I may find something. Sincerely, Anita Dunlap, 109 Commons Drive, Easley, SC 29642 ajdunlap@@charter.net 12/15/02 I contacted Anita via telephone to inquire of the status of the Bible. She stated that one of her daughters requested to keep it. Apparently they had discovered their geneological connection to Thomas Reid. |
