Notes

There is a marker on Christian Mauney’s property, erected on September 20, 1919 by the Mauney Memorial Foundation and funded by relatives, with the following statements:

1. The home of Christian Mauney.
2. The site of Tryon County Courts, 1774-1779, and then of Lincoln Courts until January 1783.
3. The encampment of Lord Cornwallis’ Army enroute to Virginia 1780-1781.
4. The place of the signing of the Tryon Association, August 14, 1775, with names of the signers.

A second marker, commemorating the Tryon Association was given by the Col. Frederick Hambright Chapter, D.A.R. Kings Mountain, NC. The property is located on the Bessemer City and Cherryville Road about four miles south of Cherryville and five miles from Bessemer City.@S2@
