Her mother died when she was thirteen years old and her aunt, Mrs. Sydney Finger, of Newton, North Carolina, who had no children of her own, took Loula and educated her at Catawba College in Newton, North Carolina. Her uncle, Major Sydney Finger, was the first Superintendent of Public Schools in North Carolina. Through his influence, she was sent to Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts, where she graduated in 1888.
In 1928 Loula Rhyne Adams' health began to decline and her absence from club and social work was missed by her host of friends. To those who knew her best, she showed many fine traits of character. At 7:45 a.m. on July 27, 1935, Loula R. Adams died at Davis Hospital in Statesville, N.C. She had been an invalid for several years. The funeral service was conducted by Dr. Charles E. Raynel of the First Presbyterian Church at the home of Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Adams and interment at the Oakwood Cemetery in Statesville. Upon request, her favorite hymn, "Hark, Hark, My Soul, Angelic Songs are Swelling," was sung by Mrs. Franklin Riker.@S7@ |
