OBITUARY Claire Anderson Reid, age 97, passed away peacefully at home on September 14, 2019. Mrs. Reid was the daughter of the late William Van Anderson and Mabel Fellers Anderson and Mr. and Mrs. Edward B. Merchant. She was born in Columbia, South Carolina on April 20, 1922. After graduating from Stoney Hill School in Prosperity and Lander College in Greenwood, Mrs. Reid taught at Richburg High School and Edgemoor High School. She was appointed Postmaster in Richburg by President Eisenhower in 1955. She served in that position for 31 years. Upon retirement, Mrs. Reid became an avid gardener and an accomplished bridge enthusiast receiving recognitions in both. At the time of her death, she was the oldest member of Union A.R.P. Church. She served in many leadership roles for the Women’s Circle of the church. Mrs. Reid was predeceased by her husband, David C. Reid, Jr. (Bud), her son, Robert B. Reid and one brother, J. W Anderson (Nelle). She is survived by her daughter, Ellen Claire Reid and three grandsons…Brian Burns Reid (Caroline), Kevin Murphy Reid (Angela), and Reid Anderson Carrico…and four great grandchildren…Taylor Reid, Rocco Reid, Emilia Reid, and Cate Reid. A celebration of life service will be held at 12:30 pm 0n October 20th at Union A.R.P. Church in Richburg, South Carolina, followed by continued visitation with family and friends in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Union A.R.P.
