The Tulia Herald:
"Dickie Adams, while still a young man, came to Anson, Texas for his health. In 1898 he and a partner moved their cattle to Tulia. For a year, he lived in his wagon and a half dug-out, about four miles from the present McClurg homeplace. Then, in 1899, he went back to Anson to marry his sweetheart, Miss Julia Herbst. He and his bride continued to live in the wagon and dug-out for another year. At that time he bought a section of land and built a one room house which later had a shed room and still later, other rooms. In 1909 a new home was built. The bride lived here six months before she ever saw another woman. The Adams had four children:1) John Richard Barr (Richard) of Amarillo, Texas; 2) Avery Gracey, of Plainview, Texas; 3) Albert Gales, of Amarillo, Texas; and 4) Mary Janie Adams McClurg, of Tulia, Texas."@S7@ |
